  3. Huck Finn in my opinion is not as adventurous as Tom Sawyer. He is the reasonable thinker, while Tom always went for irrational and absurd goals. I like the fact that Huck is a simple, laid back kid with a free spirit. He is very resourceful, and can live off the land with out any problem. Huck lives a lifestyle that would for some people, would be ideal. Huck has no worries about the influence of society on his independence. He probably doesn't even know what that means. Huck does what he needs to survive. He isn't trying to impress anyone; he is just being himself. So far, Huck doesn't posses any dis likable characteristics that I see.

  4. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he was just a little boy who would do his chores around the house such as go fishing, wash clothes in the river etc., and here and there get into trouble with his friends from school. Pulling pranks would seem more common for a twelve year old to do instead of running off and faking his own death after running away from his guardian and then his drunken father. To me a normal twelve year old would (or should) not smoke, or sneak out after dark. That is what was a little shocking to me. In my eyes, a “normal” twelve year old should go to school, play with his friends after school, and go in before dark on a daily basis. But Huck often acts as if he is sixteen or seventeen year old, having responsibilities that a twelve year old would not usually care to do or would not be old enough to handle.

    1. I agree, Julie. Huck is learning to grow up all by himself, although some of the things he does do seem too "adult" for his age.

    2. I agree with both of you. That by Huck not having a close relationship with his parents is causing him to have to grow up quickly and on his own.

  5. During the beginning of the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck struck me as a very jagged and uneducated person. He always ranted about how school did nothing for him and he did not want to go back there. Throughout the story, I began to see that even though he was not very book smart, he was very street smart. He came up with strange ideas that an average person would not think of, such as faking a death scene in order for people to not follow him when he ran away. All in all, Huck would be a profoundly enjoyable character had he wanted an enhanced education.

    1. Reading your thoughts on how Huck is very street smart, more then book smart, I totally agree with you. That's really good!

    2. I never thought about it in that perspective! That's really interesting how he could be considered street smart, pretty amazing.

    3. I agree, I could only imagine the things he could accomplish if he was also book smart. The only thing he would have to worry about is controlling himself when it came to a fun and adventure.

  6. There are many qualities Huckleberry Finn attributes. I like Huck because he does his own thing. He is not a follower, all though sometimes, his friend Tom does influence him. Huck has been abused by his dad, which I find sad. I also like the fact that Huck gave away all of his money to Judge Thatcher just so his father wouldn't be able to touch his money. One thing I dislike about Huck is; he does not stand up to his drunken father. His dad bullys him and I think Huck shouldn't take that as a 12 year old.

    2. I agree with you Mahveen, I also think that Huck should have stepped up to his dad and fought back.

    3. I agree with you on what you said about him not being a follower. That is one of the things I like about him as well.

  7. At first I thought that Huck Finn was a kid that just wanted to fit in. He would do whatever it took to get into the gang of robbers created by Tom Sawyer. He even offered up Miss. Watson as a tribute to kill if he ever revealed the secrets of the gang. He knew the difference from right and wrong but just didn’t care for some of the things that people viewed as civilized. That’s something that I liked about Huck, he was a free spirit and didn’t live by the rules of society. I disliked the fact that it seemed like he felt he had to fit into the gang of robbers.

  8. Huck Finn is a very likeable character, the things he does make the story enjoyable to read. I like that Huck Finn is open-minded and does what he wants to do. He is also very mischievous, he does things that he knows will get him in trouble and does not care about the consequences. Huck is also intelligent when it comes to getting out of trouble. He did a great job of faking his own death and Huck can also read. There really isn’t anything that I dislike about Huck at the moment; he is a very likeable character. Given Huck’s unique personality reading this book has been enjoyable and I look forward to finishing book.

    3. No doubt about it Huck is a clever son of a gun when it comes down to getting himself out of trouble on the spot i definitely agree

  9. Huckleberry Finn is a very adventerous character. The traits I like about him is that he is very outgoing. He doesn't care about what other people think about him. He always enjoys being outside as well. He hates staying home all day like I do. Even for an uneducated 12 year old kid, he is still more street smart than others who have an education. He dislikes school as much as I do. I also do not like Finn, too. Sometimes he can be very annoying in this book. He disrespects his guardian even when she decided to take care of him. He is also a type of atheist. I believe that God has given us blessings and that blessing is to live. Finn is also very racist. Everyone is equal some way or another and it bothers me that he does not see it that way.

    1. Wow I never thought of Hucks religious views in the book, but now that you bring it up I totally agree.

    2. I like his outgoing personality and attitude as well. I also agree with what you said about his racist characteristic.

    3. You describe Huck Finn so accurately from his adventurous character to his disrespect of his guardian and I completely agree with everything you said.

  10. My first impression of Huck Fin was that he is a free spirit that doesn't really care about anything. I liked that he is so independent and doesn’t have to rely on anyone else. At times, his independent spirit gets him into trouble. He has had a troubled childhood so this is understandable. His ideas and views on how he should live aren’t sanitary. He doesn’t like to clean himself, and he dislikes wearing clothing. I think this is a very uncleanly way of living. His ideas of adventures can sometimes seem foolish and strange, but he is a twelve year old boy who sees the world as just one big adventure.

    1. I totally agree with the last thing you said, "His ideas of adventures can sometimes seem foolish and strange, but he is a twelve year old boy who sees the world as just one big adventure." That is so true and as a teen sometimes I feel the same way.

    2. My first impression of Huck was that he's a free spirit as well.

      Delete
    3. I also believe he is independent. Im not as independent as he is, but i connect to him on that level because both of us are independent and share the quality of shamelessness. So I agree with you on him being independent.

      Delete
    4. I agree with the first thing you said about Huck he is a free spirit and doesn't care about anything. But, their are also times he shows that he does care. For example, when he sent the man to the sunken ship to see if the criminals were still alive.

  11. I like how Huck is a character who sees the world how it is and doesn't try to exaggerate it. I also like that he is a simple person, but has this strange life that he is managing to control. I also like that there are things that he doesn’t understand but he comes up with own interpretation of what it means. I don’t like that he acts before thinking the idea through. He sold his wealth to the Judge before thinking about his other options. I also do not like the fact that he is superstitious to a level that he wouldn’t do something because he thought it was bad luck, like when he spilled salt he instantly tried to throw some over his shoulder to get rid of the bad luck.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I also really like that Huck views the world through a realists perspective. The superstition does, however, add a bit of dislike.

      Delete
    2. I agree as well on the superstitions when he does something stupid for the most part he usually takes it as bad luck

      Delete
  12. My first impression of Huck Finn is that he’s a troublemaker and likes to live to his own standards. Also he would rather prefer the wild life before the civil life. I like how Huck just lives life meaning he adjusts to whatever comes his way. For example when his dad runs off with him in the cabin even though he does plan to run away and is successful he still lives in the moment and does what’s required. When his dad beats him he just takes it and does not complain too much. What I dislike about Huck sometimes is his thought process at moments like when he puts the dead snake next to Jim and the reason he thinks Jim gets bit is because of bad luck for touching snake skin.

  13. Before reading the book, I thought it was going to be a boring read. Judging by the title, I could care less about Huck Finn and his adventures. But after reading, I realized it’s not too bad. The slang is interesting, and the constant action is the only reason that keeps me reading. On every page something crazy happens. I wouldn’t think that a twelve year old boy would kill a pig and use its blood to make it look like a murder. However, at this point I do not like the book because it’s not my type of literature. On the plus side, I enjoy Twain’s imagination and creativity in creating action and adventure for Huck and Tom. I think the best part of the book is the characters. They all have such interesting personality traits. I believe Huck has an unstable personality, and even though he isn’t really educated from school, he is still very clever and witty. He is also very independent for a 12 year old. He does what he wants, and stays shameless. I believe being shameless is a very important quality. If he were a real person, I would be friends with him.

  14. Huck Finn has a very unique background as a character. He is a young boy who is often influenced by his friends and runs into trouble. What I like about him is that he is a very witty and independent boy. He knows how to play smart. In order to protect himself and his wealth from his father, he had to make a sacrifice and give it away to someone else to control. What I don't like about Huck Finn is that he gets influenced easily by his friends. His friends and him wanted to start smoking at such a young age, but of course, Widow Douglas does not approve. He doesn't appreciate that fact that she is only doing it for his good. He still keeps his rebellion ways and rejects Widow Douglas' help.

    1. I totally agree with you about his friends influencing him into doing things, whether good or bad. But, I feel like his friends could also be a good influence into making him as adventurous as he is.

  15. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he was a very straight forward boy. He liked to be outside in the wilderness, did not like to be kept the house. He was adventurous but was hesitant to do things at times. He was poorly educated and mannered but him being poorly educated did not mean he was not smart. The thing I liked about him was that he was able to fend for himself and was very independent. The thing that I disliked was that he tried to grow up too fast and do things before he put much thought into it.

  16. My first impressions of Huck Finn were that he was care-free and wanted to do whatever he wanted at that moment for example, how he is only twelve years old and is smoking and sneaking out in the middle of the night. Huck should not have to chase his drunken father around and acting almost as the parent. As what twelve should be doing is going to school which he hated but came to liking it until his father came into the picture. I can tell Huck has a soft side though because when Tom told him to take the hat off Jim, Huck refused because he thought he’d get caught. I like Huck for how he just tries to live life and have no one tell him what to do and already knows a lot for his age.

    1. I agree Leann that huck wants to live as a free spirit but cannot because he is either being constantly watched by the widow or his father, so he had to change his life drastically.

  17. Huckleberry Finn is living a hard life for someone his age. He is living an adventurous life but a very daring life as well. At any moment he may be caught and get into deep trouble having assisted Jim in his escape from Mrs. Watson. Huck Finn is a courageous and brilliant boy for having to come up with the scene he left at the cabin from which he escaped from. Huck paid attention to detail and made everyone believe that he was killed and missing. Huck has earned my respect because he took a chance at escaping from his father’s cabin and made sure that he left no signs of him being alive.

    1. I disagree with the fact that he is living a hard life. His life allows him to do what he wants to do. Sure he has problems, but who doesn't. He learns to solve his problem, I do not believe his life is hard.

    2. As a twelve year old boy who has no family but an abusive drunk father who he has to run away from by planning an elaborate plan of his own death and running away as a fugitive with a wanted slave while risking dangers ranging from capture to death, i say that Huck is living a very hard life for his age.

  18. Huck Finn is a likeable character in this book. His hatred of school is common for a twelve year old to currently believe. He dislikes school as much as I did at that age. Many of the views that Huck has are also shared with me. Huck is a realist, shown when he could he did not pretend the Sunday School kids were the mobs of Arabs. I am also a realist. Huck’s common traits with me add to how much I like him. I also like how he comes up with clever plans, such as when he was “murdered”. I dislike his accent with a passion.

  20. My first impression of Huckleberry Finn was that he was an adventurous boy that seemed to do whatever he wanted. I first thought he was ignorant for the fact that he was so negative about rules and going to school. Later on in the story I began to like the fact that he does not want to be confined into society. He likes to live life in his own simple ways as a free individual. Although he does not like school, I still believe he is a very smart boy. I also think that Huck is a rational person, he sees everything as is and is very straightforward with people.

    2. i like how you mentioned him being ignorant but realizing its his strive for adventure and to not be "confined into society" instead. I can agree with that.

  21. My first impression on Huck is that he is very mature for his age; he sees things differently than any normal 12 year old. I think that has to do with the fact that he’s seen and been through things that not every little boy goes through in their childhood. What I find to like about Huck is that he is very independent and knows how to take care of himself, but many people are not able to see that because of his age. They think that he needs someone to lead him into the right direction but all Huck wants to do is be himself, which is something I admire from him. However, what I dislike about him that sometimes he takes adventure a little too seriously and doesn’t think about the consequences.

    1. I agree with you, he does do some crazy things just because he thinks Tom would do them.

    2. I like the point you made that people don't see the good qualities in Huck, like independence, because he is still too young. I agree that Huck wants to be good, but finds it hard because of impulses to have fun.

      Delete
    3. Branching off to what Nancy said, i also agree because he is usually viewed as a non- conformist and unintelligent boy who accepts life as given to him. But, as you pointed out, he does have really good qualities like his independence and ability to do things beyond his age

  22. Before reading the novel I had a distorted perception on Huckleberry Finn and his character. Shockingly, the first impression was reciprocal to my prior judgments, having discovered how civilized and realistic he seemed to be for a short period. Whereas my previous thoughts begged to differ when i believed he was a rowdy and misbehaved child. Once again, I was proved wrong later through out the book and began to like Finns thought process and his adventurous mind. Finn was able to open his mind as wide as any ocean and tumble into its vast deepness of escape routes read in any fairy tale.
Also, by first impression, I disliked the fact that he was quickly influenced by Tom Sawyer and his gang instead of thinking on his own and doing what he believed was right.

    1. I agree, Huck doesn't really know how to do things on his own without thinking what Tom Sawyer would do.

      Delete
    2. I agree with you. I also thought that Huck was a rowdy and misbehaved child, but I think its mainly because of the influence that Tom has on him. I think that deep inside, Huck is a good willed human being. He just needs to stop relying on someone else and show the person he truly is; a good person.

      Delete
    3. I also dislike the fact he is strongly influenced by whatever his friends do even if they aren't the smartest ideas. Since that is all he's ever known, I would think its hard to find his true self. Instead, he idolizes being someone else (Tom).

      Delete
    4. I agree, Huck just has to stop thinking about what people would or wouldn't do in any given situation. He needs to have faith in himself and the decisions he makes in order to increase his self esteem.

      Delete
  23. Huck seemed to be a child that did not mind getting dirty, enjoyed adventure, and did not have a good way of speaking. So in other words he seemed to be like Tom Sawyer, but with some differences. Unlike Tom, Huck was more realistic about things and did not have the imagination that Tom did. That is one of the things I like about Huck. He does not exaggerate and tells it how it is. He is a bit more serious. What I do not like is that he gets influenced by bad people such as Tom who is a trouble maker.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, the fact that he is like any other twelve year old boy who likes adventure blows my mind and his rationalistic thought process is incredible! he needs to stop listening to Tom because that child brings a storm of trouble along with him

      Delete
    2. I completely agree with you on Huck being influenced by Tom. I think Huck relies way too much on Tom, and hides who he truly is as a person. I think Huck should start focusing on himself and have his own thought and action process, and most importantly be his own person.

      Delete
  24. My first impression of Huckleberry Finn was not surprised at all by his actions and personality. I see Huck as a young, free spirited child that likes adventure. His lack of a stable home makes him uncivilized and wiled but that isn’t his fault. Huck in my opinion is open minded and plain awesome. Something i like about Huck is his curiosity about the world. He knows what’s real and what isn’t but all in all he loves adventure and what the world has to offer him. Another thing I enjoy about Huck is his way of thinking. He is young and has a crazy imagination but somewhere in him he has a mature way of thinking, like talking to Jim about what happened and knowing that it will benefit him if he runs away. Another thing I like about Huck Finn is his stubbornness. He is a strong willed boy that sets his mind to something a does it. I like Huckleberry Finn as a character and have no dislikes about him. He is a strong, free spirited child that will change for the better as the book goes on.

    1. I strongly agree that it isn't Huck's fault that he has lack of a stable home, being uncivilized, and a free spirited child. His way of being is because of his past and is not ashamed of it.

  25. As soon as i started to read "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", I started to have impressions about the character. My first impression of Huck is that he is a really lively, adventurous boy who loves to investigation and learns about the outside world. He is also a lover of nature since his most comftorablest place to be is the woods. This is what i like about him. He is also very superstitious. This impression came up when Huck tried throwing salt behind his back. I also think Huck Finn is a really good person, but acts like a bad person because of the influences that other people have on him, such as Tom Sawyer. This is what i dislike about him.

    1. I agree I think the outdoors is like his home. Comparing his school work to things he knows about the woods, he doesn't try at all at school but puts in so much effort when it comes to learning about the outdoors. I think he's like any other boy in that sense.

  26. When I think of Huckleberry Finn, I think of a person who needs to make up his mind. It's odd when he speaks about how he wants to live a simple life but yet he tries to be adventurous with Tom. Even then, he's a lot more realistic than Tom is so it ends up coming back around like some sort of loop hole. He also spoke about how he went to school out of spite of his father yet doesn't like school in the first place. I feel he honestly should just pick somewhere to be and not be so out of place. I see him as more of a down-to-earth kind of guy. He's definitely not a bad person, so I think he should realize that as well.

  27. Huck is not an unlikeable character. I respect that he simply lives the way he wants to. He does not like conformity, but for a while he obeys the widow to make her happy. I like Huck for the reason that he is adventurous, yet still thinks reasonable, unlike Tom Sawyer. Huck has the ability to maintain an open imagination without forgetting about reality and harsh truths. What I dislike about Huck, though I understand, is that he does not fully appreciate what the Widow does for him by supplying him with nice clothes and sending him to school. I see that he does not like it and that it is being forced upon him, but she simply wants the best for Huck.

  28. At first I thought Hick Finn was going to be a lot like Tom Sawyer, but once I started to read Huck Finn I realized it is much different. I like the way Mark Twain uses different dialects for the different ways people talk. I also like how Huck becomes such an adventurous and lively boy. At the beginning i thought he was more shy and not much like Tom at all, but once he was alone in the woods with his father and makes his plans to escape I began to realize that him and Tom are not much different. They both are adventurous and outgoing. Huck is more of a kindhearted person with more of novel ideas and thinks more realistically then Tom.

  29. When I first started reading about Huck Finn, I thought he was adventurous and childish like Tom Sawyer. Although he is adventurous, he is more mature than Tom and also seems to be more realistic. At first, I did not understand why he hates being proper and civilized. Then I started to like the fact that he does not like to be conformed to society and is more interested in nature. His relationship with his dad has a strong impact on how he views himself, as well other people and situations. He thinks things through more realistically, whereas other boys his age live in fantasy.

  30. My first impression of Huck Finn wasn't very fond. Going into the read, I knew "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" was the sequel to "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". As I read about Tom Sawyer, I didn't like the characters in that novel much. The young boys were too mischievous and rather rude. While this is normal for young boys, I don't like that attitude. However, into the read of this book I can now see the depth Huck has. While he is often reckless and wild, he does have a conscious (ex: when he felt bad for "dying" because of the old widow). He is also very intelligent. I dislike that he hides his intelligence. He's practically ashamed of it, and I find that very sad. However I understand why he acts the way he does. His father is a horrible father figure, but despite everything, Huck is vulnerable and still wants to make his dad proud. Overall, I like Huck for the person he truly is, however I don't like that he hides that person.

  31. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he doesn't like to be clean and he is very adventurous. I felt bad for him when we read about his father beating him up. One thing that I like about Huck Finn is that he is not afraid to get into some wild adventures. However, I greatly dislike the way he talks. The word that he uses to call a certain group of people is absolutely horrible. Huck Finn is a very superstitions boy and that is something else that I dislike. I feel that Huck Finn could be a really good person if it weren't for the bad influences that he surrounds himself with.

  32. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he was a pretty adventurous boy who did whatever he wanted. After is father left and was nowhere to be found, Widow Douglas took him under her wing and made him into a well-mannered boy. No matter how much Huck hated being proper and praying before each meal, he still did as he was told. Huck and his friends all liked having fun together. one of his most adventurous friends was Tom. Tom always like imagining spontaneous events would occur and they would steal all the money and capture all of the women, but Huck was much more realistic. Huck knew that none of that stuff was ever going to happen and they were just messing around.

  33. My first impression about Huck Finn was that he is just a young boy that's seeking adventure in life. It was obvious from the beginning that Huck doesn't like confinement and rules. Although Huck does crave a life full of adventure he is not as free spirited as he seems. Unlike Tom, Huck knows that there are limitations in life and is not as imaginative as Tom. Tom sees things that are not there and he creates these fantasies that he believes will truly happen while Huck knows that he needs to stay in reality and some things really won't happen. Huck also shows characteristics of being kind, like when he treats Jim as a human being unlike others would at that time and also the fact that he never truly strikes back his father when he is beating down on him.The one thing I don't really like about Huck though is the fact that he doesn't appreciate what Miss Watson has done for him. I understand that he doesn't like rules however, he should have realized that Miss Watson has done so much for him and he really should have taken that into account before running off without even seeing her. Although Huck does have some flaws, I think they just show that he is a young growing boy.

  34. Huckleberry Finn is a non-conformist. He does not care what anyone thinks of him, he just does what he wants to do when he wants to do it, even if it gets him in trouble. Huck is a wild and troublesome kid. The reason why I think this is because he lacks parental guidance, instead he has a stranger for a guardian, Miss. Watson, an old lady who he doesn't even like. His mother is unknown in the novel and his father is a drunk who lives in the streets. What I like about Huckleberry Finn is that he is not dependent of anyone, he enjoys the company of others but if he were alone he would be fine. For example he escapes from his dad's cabin to a lonely island called Jackson Island. What I dislike about him is the fact that he is very superstitious. For example, the way he thinks that if you look at the moon behind your left shoulder you will get bad luck, or how he has to throw salt behind him to ward off bad luck.

  35. As I started reading "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," Huck seemed like a young boy who is adventurous and likes to be independent. He first seemed a little bit ignorant and unappreciative about his life at the widow's house, but he just does not like being civilized and being told what to do. He is pretty smart for his age considering how he didn't grow up educated. Curiosity is something that I liked the most about Huck. His curiosity leads him to more questions and adventures. The thing I did not like about Huck is how he does not show his true self to others. It seems like he is ashamed of who he is and pretends to be someone who he is not. He falls into peer pressure.

  36. Huck Finn to me is an alright person, I feel he really makes the best of his situations. He doesn't really let anything bother him too much and always has an answer for everything, even if he doesn't think its the best. I really like Huck Finn do to the fact that this character in a sense resembles me with imagination(in the beginning anyway). My friends can make nothing into something amazing just like Tom and i just wont have any of it, like Huck. I feel his pain for wanting to see what the others are always imagining and having fun with. But as we see later in the book is that he really does have an imagination with the way he disguises his death. I also like that Huck doesn't let his family situations and father bother him. What I don't like is his superstitious ways, I never believed in bad luck and all that stuff... I think its a little foolish but then again Huck is a little kid

    1. I agree with you, Huck is very optimistic, quick to think, and a realist. Also, I don't mind his superstitious ways.

  37. Huck Finn seemed to be a misfit right from the beginning. The gang didn’t want to accept him because he didn’t have parents, and although he offers Ms. Watson as a person to kill, he was still different. The boy’s crazy ideas seemed ridiculous to him. When his father kidnapped him, he saw himself through his father’s eyes, never through his own. What his father believed was a problem, was also a problem to Huck. I dislike the fact that Huck hangs around people like Tom Sawyer, these kids are bad influences, and over a child who has honestly gone through so much, they easily make him part of things he wouldn’t be part of on his own.

    1. I agree that Huck is very different from everything including his life, personality, and ideas. He is surrounded by kids that are bad influences and I think he is not bad of a person as people think he might be.

  38. Huckleberry Finn in my opinion is a very outgoing boy, he is very daring and brave. However I feel as though he has a low self-esteem. He compares himself to Tom Sawyer and basically says that he is not as good as Tom, even though he actually did a really good job at setting up the scene of his murder. I like how Huck Finn is very intelligent. The way he planned out the scene of his murder made everyone believe it, because he planned it so thoroughly down to the last detail. I dislike how Huck Finn is easily influenced by Tom in a negative way, even though he knows that what they do may be wrong.

    1. I feel bad that Huck sees himself as less than Tom. He deserves to have a good self-image, even if he is a wild country boy... Good answer Nikki

  39. My first impression of Huck Fin was that he seems like a typical young boy growing up going through the typical phases of a child and dealing with the same experiences as most children do. For starters he would not obey his elders on any little order he was given along with not wanting to going to school. I like the fact that he is willing to stick together with his friends. Though I do not like when he is with his father that he does not stick up for himself and tell Mrs. Watson how his dad treats him.

  40. At the very begging of the book I believed that Huck Finn was ignorant and uncreative because he wasn’t very educated up until that point. He also couldn’t understand Tom’s creative stories about Spaniards and Arabs riding elephants. Throughout the book I’ve been proven wrong because he has shown his intelligence and creativity consistently for example he added a great deal of “evidence” for when faking his death. While he was doing this I learned that he has a very low self-esteem. He said he wished Tom was here to add more details but I believe Tom couldn’t have done it any better.

    1. True but I don't think creativity is determined by education. Also, in the beginning, he wasn't quite ignorant either, just had his own preferences.

  41. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he was an adventurous (Though not as adventurous as Tom Sawyer). Huck Finn is also a realist he knows that at the Sunday School Picnic there were no diamonds or camels even though Tom said there were. Though Huck knows that Tom stretches the truth Huck still seems to believe him due to his curiosity. For example when Tom tells him about the Genie Huck goes into the forest and rubs the lamp until he is tired. Huck is also very superstitious when he kills the spider he throws salt over his shoulder and talks about hanging up horseshoes. I think that although Huck does some bad things like when he joins Tom Sawyers gang and offers them Miss Watson to kill I believe he still has many good qualities.

  42. My first impression of Huck Finn was a character that I can really relate to. He is only twelve so he possesses that energetic and playful spirit but is also more of a realist compared to Tom Sawyer. We can see that contrast between them when Tom organizes the raid with his gang and sees the Sunday School picnic as a band or rich Arabs but Huck just saw it as a regular old picnic. He has also a lot of clever ideas like the faking of his death. He also went through a lot of bad experiences with his dad that he is just trying to get away from and forget about them.

  43. When we first started reading ‘’ The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’’, I did not like his personality. I disliked that he didn’t have manners and he didn’t want to improve them either. He is a nice boy but I feel he is lost in a way. He would rather be alone rather than being around his dad and having people tell him what to do. Huck is an intelligent boy that just needs to get used to being around others. Huck is a boy that isn’t as adventures as Tom Sawyer even though he isn’t he still has parts in him that make him interesting and easy to read about.

  44. After reading the first ten chapters, Huckleberry Fin is a very kind person. He only commits bad acts when he is influenced by other people like Tom Sawyer. He is very different from the common man because unlike most people only looking for a way to get rich, he does not care much about the value of money. He enjoys living in the wild where money does not matter instead of living in town. Huck is very real. He does not believe in things that cannot be proven. He doesn’t believe in superstitions or and of the imagined characters by Tom.

    1. I agree with most of what you said, except for your last statement. He's actually very superstitious. The whole thing about accidentally killing the spider in the candle and throwing salt over his shoulder are some signs.

  45. My first impression of Huckleberry Finn is that he is a very unique boy who refuses to conform and be like everyone else. Huck does not like to be civilized and follow the rules. When he lives with Miss Watson he never wants to follow the rules she gives him. He hates having to pray, going to sleep at certain time, being clean, watching his language, etc. I also think Huck is very a little confused and unsure of himself. He questions many things such as the Arabs and Spaniards which Tom Sawyer was seeing. Huck is more of a realist than Tom. He is not as imaginative or adventurous.

  46. Huckleberry Finn's personality may vary from time to time. At first, he came off as a troublesome school boy who loved to displease Mrs. Watson. She had a difficult time trying to get Huck Finn to settle down at first. Eventually, Huck realized that school wasn't that bad and he started to actually pay attention. With a little bit of Mrs. Watson's elbow grease he gave in and listened to her. Huck is an adventurous little fellow. He, along with Tom Sawyer, loved to play around with all of his friends and get into trouble. All though he may have came off a little slow at first, but he was actually quite clever. Especially when he had faked his disappearance and he had left the ax with a few of his hairs in order for it to seem legitimate. Although Huck may come off as a jerk at some times, I believe that he can be a genuinely nice when he wants to be. He comes from a troublesome background, and that is what can bring out either his good side or bad side.

  47. My first impression on Huckleberry Finn is that he is very different, but yet the same as a normal twelve year old boy. He is the same because he does not like to use his manners and he hates going to school. He is also very different though because he is very independent. He is able to survive alone without his father or Miss Watson. I think Huck is a very brave boy because he has a father who is an alcoholic and he still dares to run away. He is also very adventurous and very intelligent. The only thing i dislike about Huck is that he is easily influenced by Tom Sawyer. He follows him around and joins him when he does things he knows are not right.

  48. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he is mischievous and lives a care free life style. Huck is also not assertive and he is uneducated which is showed by his improper spelling and grammar. Huck likes to listen to other people’s opinions and follow what they say. Since he is not assertive he quickly joins Tom Sawyer’s gang which kills, robs and murders. There’s nothing that I don’t enjoy about Huck Finns character since he is a realist similar to myself. I also like his curiosity for the world and how adventurous he is. These were my first impressions of Huck Finn.

  49. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he is a free kid and does what he feels like doing. I like how he is a boy that is independent and doesnt rely on no one. He is a person that just lives life and doesnt care much about his surroundings. The thing I dislike about him is that he is a good person that make bad decions. For example when he gave his money to the judge before thinking about it. Overall I like Huck Fin as a character because he is adventurous but him making choses isnt as good.

  50. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he is a good person but puts on an act. I don't like that because I feel that you should be who you truly are and not be fake. Something that I do like about Huck Finn is that he is superstitious because I find all that interesting and I believe in some of that stuff. Also, he seems to be a free person and let's go. I like that because people shouldn't be so up tight;more of living life. I also like that he is open to learning about the world and what surrounds him. He feels comfortable out it nature and nature is a beautiful thing. He also seems to be very strong and that's always a good thing. I don't like that in order to just be in the gang he gave up Miss Watson. Putting her in danger for no reason;for his benefit. It just make him seem selfish and rude.

  51. Huck Finn is a very mischievous and wild character. I like his sense of being free and how he doesn't like being forced to do things such as go to school and acting civilized. He wants to live life to the fullest and do things the way he wants to. However, despite his desire to act like a kid, playing and wanting to enjoy life, he is also a sensible character and is a realist. I like how he sees things the way they are instead of dreaming things up like his friend Tom Sawyer, but still retain his childlike mindset at the same time.

  52. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he is a typical 12 year old boy who loves to stir trouble under everyone’s noses along with his friends and run his own life calmly without the unwanted appearance of other people. Although some of his actions don’t seem funny to me, and make me cringe at his unfortunate happenings, I can see Huck as an individual who stands up towards his beliefs. His courage to run away from an abusive father and live alone in the wild demonstrates his untamed spirit. He proves to be an adolescent who wants to grow up at his own pace and learn his mistakes along the way.

  53. Huck Finn is quite an intriguing character. I don’t quite appreciate his language or smoking habits. He’s only twelve, for crying out loud. I do like the fact that he’s very independent at such a young age, although it wasn’t his choice to be. Without a mother and an abusive, alcoholic father, he has no choice but to take care of himself, which also makes him very resourceful. I thought that was cool. I really enjoy his humor and the fact that he isn’t into material possessions. He’d rather live out in the woods and be clothed in rags. My favorite characteristic of Huck is that he’s very superstitious, because I’m the same way.

    1. I agree with your opinion about Huck because his past and a non influential childhood pushed him to become more independent while still being up to mischievous things.

  54. Huck Fin is a young and wild boy with big but few issues. His way of coping with his issues is not the best. He should not be smoking nor drinking at his age; twelve year olds should be going to school and learning. Though he has only lived around these bad habits so it’s all he has ever known. He has the mindset of a child and lifestyle of a grown man. He has always been very independent and superstitious, a bit too much. I believe he is the way he is because he’s never known right and wrong. A child without guidance is misguided. He is ignorant, but there is more to him then most eyes meet. He is in fact a very interesting character.

  55. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he is an individual going with the flow of whatever happens to him. I like that Huck doesn’t take himself or anything that happens to him too seriously. He accepts what goes on in his life and he doesn’t complain. An example would be when Huck’s Dad gets custody of him. He isn’t happy about it, but makes the best of it fishing and hunting with his Pap, until he gets sick of Pap beating him. Then he fakes his own death and runs away. That leads into the other traits I like about Huck- his wit and cleverness. He seems like he knows exactly what to do to make it look like thugs robbed Pap’s cabin. It seems like it is planned out perfectly, and he is only 12. What I dislike about Huck is that he doesn’t care much about personal hygiene, but on the other hand, what 12 year old boy does?

    1. I completely agree, people usually compare the two friends and conclude that Tom is the clever mischievous one, but clearly Huck seems to be pulling out hidden tricks and illusions from his hat. Very interesting, i like the statement you made about how optimistic he is in certain situations, which contradicts to judgments made about his low self-esteem.

  56. Huck Finn is an interesting character. At first I thought he was some dumb kid who only knew how to follow Tom Sawyer, but he is more than that. He eventually learns how to read and write and he’s not as naïve as I thought he’d be. He outsmarts his father when he runs away from him, he makes it look as though he was murdered and his body thrown into the river even though he actually runs away by boat. Later he disguises himself as a girl to sneak into town. When his disguise is found out he still manages to convince a woman that he comes from a farm. Huck Finn is a quick thinker and he sees the world in a practical sort of way which is the complete opposite of Ton Sawyer who prefers his imagination.

  57. My impression of Huck Finn is that he lives life with no regret, no worries, and no questions. I like that he knows that he can be independent and doesn’t need anyone because he’s a nonconformist. Just by being that type of person he gets himself in troubled situations during school or at home. Huck’s childhood reflects on the way he is now which makes sense because he grew up with his father being an alcoholic and having no mother. Since he grew up with no parents,i dislike he sees life very different by not being clean, having no manners, and cannot trust anyone which leads him to acting shady.

  58. Huck is a very out going and adventurous young boy. He sees life as his very own playground. That is what i like best about him, he doesn't take no for a answer. If he wants to go do something, he goes. He doesn't seem care about the events that happened way before his time. Such as learning about the bible and all those important people. He finds no reason to learn about them, and this is what i don't like about him. He is in such a rush to get on with things, he doesn't take the time to appreciate what other people did. Its all about Huck. He doesn't respect the widow and all that she tries to do for him.

  59. My first impression of Huck Finn was that he did what he wanted when he wanted, and he did not care what others thought. I feel like he try to seem like he doesn't care for others, but deep down he really does he just does not want anyone to know. He is a very adventurous little boy who wishes he could be just like his friend Tom. Although, he wishes to be like Tom, he already is more than he realizes by adding little touches here and there, that only he could think of. Some of his chooses of adventure are foolish, but that is expected because he is still a young boy. Huck has not had the easiest life, his dad beat him with a whip when he was drunk, so I think that has made him feel almost like he is not good enough. That is why his self-esteem is so low, and how he doesn't think to highly of himself. Huck does not like being civil because his dad raised him other ways than that.
