  1. An element of American society that you can see are Amish people, because they share many of the same beliefs as the Puritans. The main thing that the Puritans and the Amish shared is plainness. All Amish people wear the same clothes. They also have very plain houses, furniture, and even their lifestyle is plain.

  2. One element of Puritanism I see today in America is Christian beliefs. The Puritans were not Christians but they shared mainly the same beliefs as them. And knowing that almost 85 percent of America is Christian one might see how America originated many beliefs from Puritans. Also, when people think of American Literature you don't really think of very complex writing and Puritans were very plain, simple writers.

  3. Amish people are a great example of Puritan beliefs being put in action. The Amish live both a plain and simple lives, as well as are very hard workers. They hand make anything they need, as well as grow their own crops. Whatever they may need they make on their own, and do not rely on others for their belongings. These are to important beliefs that Puritans believed in that are still in use in modern America.

  4. The elements of Puritanism I see in American society today are the Puritan ideals. Many people in the world today believe that hard work and education will help on later in the life of our own. Hard work is proven by the amount of hours we spend of our lives trying to keep the world going. Education is proven by the total of hours we spend daily at our school trying to learn new things we can use in our lives.

  5. Some elements of Puritanism that are seen in American society today are education and self-improvement. As of education, the Puritans established Harvard University, which is now one of the best universities in the world. The Puritans also believed that a human being can only improve his/herself. They impact the outcome of whom they want to become and what skills they want to improve.

  6. Modern America shares some elements of Puritanism society. One of the elements they both share is the importance of education. Puritans thought education was very important in their period of time. Americans today believe education is an important foundation in society. In America, the more advanced fields of work require education. We are starting to enter the age where everyone must learn and have an education.

  7. An element of Puritanism seen in society is education. Although not as heavily-pressed today, many Americans still view that working to learn in school and trying to e as smart as possible is the way to become successful in life, which means that learning early on sets young adults up for a good college and career. Parents today still are hard on their children for how they perform in school.

  8. Education is an element of Puritanism that we see in American Society today. Everywhere in the world, everyone is offered to receive and education and be able to put that knowledge into hard work, which is another element we see today. Although hard work is one of them, only some choose to actually work hard while others do not believe in that and may slack off. Working hard should be more of an everyday thing for most people I believe.

  9. In today's society, I think what's expected out of a proud American citizen the most is self-reliance, but it doesn't always happen. America was born out of the desire to be self-reliant, which made us break away from Britain in the first place. However, there are many people now who rely on others when it comes to financial troubles. Sometimes, it may not be their fault; they were just dealt a bad hand and learn to be frugal with their money. But there are others who ask for money from the government instead of studying and getting a well-paying job. Many of our citizens should strive for self-reliance.

  10. One of the elements of Puritanism that American society uses today is discipline. Most Americans have discipline. An example would be going to work or school every day getting there on time and completing your tasks. In ones eyes that would be considered discipline because you are doing what you are suppose to do and everyone is expected of it.

  11. Self-reliance, a Puritan value, promotes independence. This value is apparent in American society. Most Americans believe that if everyone takes care of themselves there will be no problems, leading to a better society. Being self-reliant is related to being hardworking, another puritan value. With hard work anything could be achieved! (Just as Puritans believed)

  12. Plainness is one of the central beliefs of the Puritans, and although it is not as extreme as it once was, in our modern day society we live generally plain lives. Adults typically work from nine to five, return home, and do it again the next day, children have a similar routine for school. Modern people not only share this one similarity with the Puritans, but while they go to work or school everyday it is encouraged to work as hard as one can and stay disciplined. It is a simple process that is repeated day in and day out, and in that sense we imitate one of the Puritan's strong beliefs.

  13. In the 20th century, the four Central Beliefs of Puritans remain throughout the lives of many Americans. A plethora of American religions still believe to this day, that the sole purpose of existing is to worship God. Along with the sole purpose to worship God, America practically worships the education system that we have now, with the base of the system starting due to Puritans. Belief number two and three, on the other hand have greatly been disregarded and cast out. In the world we live in now, things revolve solely on money and the eccentric fashion seen on a day to day bases.

  14. In American society today, I notice several elements of Puritanism that still exist. Puritans found education to be an important part of life just like the people of today. Nowadays kids start learning as little as three years old and learn for the rest of their lives through a school, or job atmosphere. Hard work is another belief that ties in with the Puritans. Puritans viewed hard work as an effort from their people to make the world a better place. Like the people of today, we know things are not handed to us in life without a little hard work.

  15. Over the course of several hundred years a paucity of Puritan ideals and beliefs stood the test of time and exist within our modern American society. One of such ideals include the need for self improvement and higher education throughout ones life. Many Americans continue their pursuit of knowledge after high school and even after college. Another Puritan ideal that is seen in our modern society is the need to be frugal. Almost all Americans search for, and love buying, their groceries and goods at a low or reasonable price.

  16. In american society today, I see a lot of the elements of Puritanism two of them being education and frugality. Education is very important in the modern world. There are lots of people graduating high school, going to college and getting degrees. Frugality is also another element of Puritanism today. Most people are saving their money for the future, and not wasting it on useless things.

  17. Thousands of years ago there was a group of people named the puritans, who inspired a plethora of ways we, as society, do things. The puritans believed in themselves, they believed in bettering themselves with hard work, self reliance, and a good education. Today, all those qualities are needed to live a fulfilling life. Without the constant want to do our best, there would be no successful people in the world today.

  18. An example of puritan beliefs today would be the Amish and Amish alike. They all share the same beliefs of hard work and dressing in plainness. Some puritans beliefs are used by most of the population including hard work, self-relaince, and education. Most americans try to excell at these beliefs.

  19. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela. In today's society, Americans are taught to live by hard work and discipline. Education and discipline are vital to triumph in this world. I believe hard work is very rewarding in the end. Puritans believed if they emphasized hard work and discipline, God would grant his holiness and grace to only a selected few who followed his orders. I, as an American, have always been told to improve what I can do better. Self-improvement is one of the Puritan's ideals, that has become part of today's society. Learning from your mistakes is a huge factor that involves self-improvement. These are only a few of the many ideals used in American Society today.

  20. In today's society we have some of the same ideals as the Puritans did. One ideal we share is education, without education we would not have the knowledge we do today and the Puritans also believed highly in education. Hard work is something every american has to do, we do not have a choice whether to sit around or do nothing. Hard work equals a good living and good living equals hard work. If we do not work hard you will not be using your skills to the highest ability they can. Many beliefs the Puritans followed are still being used in how we live in today's society.

  21. The Puritains were very different and very strict with their beliefs. Many years ago Puritanism was a big thing. They had 4 main beliefs, one of the beliefs that is mostly seen in america today would be plainess. The Puritains believed that people should live a simple style just like Jesus. They also believed that they should be hard working individuals. The Puritans wanted to emulate Jesus Christ. One religion that is still going on in modern america is the amish. They believe in a smiple lifestyle and plainness, they dont use all the fancy technology like most of society does. They try to make everything on their own to self improve and show hard work. Most people today are hard working and have an education.

  22. In modern American society, a good education is viewed as one of the most important things you can have in the early stages of your life. Just like the Puritans in the 1600's, Americans today stress that their children work hard in school so that their lives later on can be easier.

  23. American society has a plethora of elements that are the same as the Puritans. The Puritans believed in hard work, frugality, self-improvement, self-reliance, and lastly education. American society believe in all of those elements, most importantly education. It is law that children must go to school, and many people believe education is important. Children study in school five days a week, within those days they attend school seven hours a day. In school children learn science, math, English, History, etc. The American society bases off how well they do in school and reflect that on the job that they want to succeed in.

  24. Today, our society still follows the Puritan idealism of "the sole expression of Gods will", whether we are aware of it or not. People often refer back to the bible to use Gods word at their defense. For example, we currently are at a constant battle when it comes to abortion and same-sex marriage. More often than not, politicians and others who are strongly against either refer to the bible to defend their own opinion, such as saying that God considered it sinful.

  25. Alike Puritanism, self-reliance and education is seen throughout society in modern day America. Since youth, children were enrolled in schools. Until they became adults, they had the choice to continue with their education. It has always been told that education is the key priority to future success. Because there is a paucity of people wanting to continue with their studies, a substantial part of today's society is unemployed. In adulthood, people are taught to become reliable on themselves.

  26. One element of Puritanism I see in American society today is self-improvement. Every day we go to school to improve our knowledge to better our understanding of certain subjects. Some of the other things we improve on is our mindsets.

  27. Self improvement is an element of Puritanism and is still seen in American society today. Majority of the people in society now are always finding new and different ways to better themselves. Self improvement and self reliance go hand in hand because as one starts to improve themselves, they learn to be more self reliant.

  28. In American society today, a plethora of Purist values and ideas remain. For example, the Amish, a religious group that has similar beliefs to the Puritans. One example of this is how they are hard workers and they depend on their hard work to provide everything they need. The Amish also believe in the Puritan aspect of being simple. They are usually farmers, with no electricity ,and do not own automobiles.

  29. Puritans values such as ideals resonate in today's society. Notions of hard work and education are one of the common aspects we inherited or learned from the Puritans. For example, without knowledge, we wouldn't acknowledge or even recognize the major effects they have done throughout history. Another aspect is hard work. Us Americans learned to work hard for what we want. By not working hard, we sit around contemplating about what to do next instead of what to do to change our society for the better. Many beliefs from Puritans are still being followed today.
